Rooflight
A rooflight is the term preferred in the UK to describe a glazed unit featured on the roof of a room. Our rooflights use a kerb system to support the glass and remain watertight/weatherproof. Different requirements are needed for different roof styles which is why all of our rooflights are made specific to customer requirements. Skylight
A skylight is the term most preferred by Americans to describe glazed units designed to be installed in the roof. Essentially, they are used interchangeably as they describe the same thing which is where the confusion has come from. The name comes down to preference and we will mostly use rooflight across our website but may occasionally use skylight to appeal to both terminology uses.
Roof Window
A roof window is a completely separate unit that is often confused with rooflights. Roof windows are required to be CE marked in order to prove that they can withstand constant and heavy rainfall so that damp cannot get through. Roof windows are usually only available in standard sizes and shapes and are often much smaller than rooflights. Certain roof window manufacturers have begun developing options to use improved glass specifications to allow larger products to be produced.
